BRST Parent Meeting Minutes

 

October 11, 2006

 

  1. Important Dates:

a.                   October 18, 2006 – CAS will be available at the Rec. from 4:30 – 6:00 to purchase team suits and any other items you may need for your swimmer.

b.                  October 27, 2006 - Team Pictures.  Starting at 4:30 with individuals, then team photo.

c.                   November 1, 2006 – all USA registrations are due, membership good for 1 year.  $45.00.

d.                  December 10, 2006 – Blizzard Meet

  1. There is a packet of information available for the swimmer and their families.  Please check mail boxes.
  2. If you want a BRST latex swim cap, $6.00.  Please fill out order form, put in mailbox.  Orders will be filled rather quickly; we do have a supply available.
  3. Fundraiser. 

a.                   Butter Braids

b.                  Selling dates September 27 – October 23, 2006

c.                   Prepay fundraiser

d.                  Volunteers are needed to help organize the in coming order

e.                   Pick up is November 10, Rec. Center, 5:00 – 6:30 pm

  1. Code of conduct matters

a.                   An incident last week with the cupcakes with frosting and wrappers all over the pool and deck and lockers rooms has led to Coach Colleen not offering Friday snacks for 1 month. 

b.                  Another compliant of bullying and name calling. 

c.                   Please talk to your swimmers about respecting others and the facility we use.   

  1. BRST hosting the Blizzard Meet on December 10, 2006.

a.                   BRST is doing our own ribbons.  The extra cost involved is approx.  $120.00 for the whole meet.

b.                  Savory Subs has agreed to run the entire concessions and provide hospitality for us.  BRST will be completely covered in this area.  We may get some profit from this.  Hospitality the day of meet is strictly for the officials and coaches, not parents.  BRST will provide drinks light snacks for those who volunteer that day.

c.                   Dippin’ Dots will also be there with a stand.

d.                  T-shirt and sweat shirts will also be sold.  BRST does receive a 15% profit from those items sold.

e.                   VOLUNTEERS are the biggest concern.  BRST would like to man the entire meet without any outside help, even though we have support from 2 other teams.  Please fill out the volunteer form and send back.  We can all work together and make this a success.  No job is too difficult. 

f.                    Krissie Dunlay is our director and is doing the meet entries.

g.                   Prep work done prior to the meet.

1.      Heat sheets, assembly line style to prepare.  Will most likely be done on the Thursday prior to the meet.

2.       We need help Saturday evening to set up certain area for the morning.

  1. Team Volunteers (not meet related):  Committee heads needed for certain functions to help run the team throughout the season.

a.                   Team Apparel – working with Elaine’s to place orders with. 

b.                  Swim Incentives –

1.      swimmer of the month incentives

2.      socials

3.      cut patches

c.                   Trophies

d.                  Team Banquet

e.                   Swim-A-Thon

f.                    Let Mark know if you are willing to help out in any of these areas.

  1. Please check your mailboxes.  This is a major way of correspondence between families and BRST, as well as the up coming web site.
  2. Coach Colleen had a few words:

a.                   If you plan to swim a meet that she CAN NOT attend, there is a list that was sent home stating the meets she WILL be at, then your swimmer will have to swim unattached for that meet.  The league will assign them a coach for the day.

b.                  Carb up the night before a meet.  Gives more energy the following day.   Eat light in the morning and avoid dairy products before you swim.

c.                   Relays will be swum if there is enough swimmers to swim in that age bracket.  BRST pays for the relay entries.

  1. BRST meet entry forms will be emailed to those who have provided us with an email address.
  2. We are in the process of getting a web site up and running.  All information will be readily available once this site is up.  We will then have a link with the City of Brunswick and the Rec Center.
  3. Make sure BRST Parent Board has your email address and phone numbers.  We want to keep and open line of communication between all of us.  Goal is to not leave anyone out of the loop.
